WATER TOWER IN MENDOCINO

August 2013 - This was a unique place, maybe not to the area, but for my husband and me.  It was built in 1880 as a water tower, now converted into an apartment.  This was a little farm back in its day.  The main house is a bed & breakfast.  But we rented “The Tower” for 3 nights.  I was not impressed by the housekeeping, for I expected it to be immaculate, for the price we paid and the area it was in.  It was a little run down and very cluttered with personal stuff.  I kind of expected to experience some paranormal activity staying here.  But I guess because I wasn't afraid, they stayed quiet.  One of the reasons for staying here is because it was walking distance to all the shops, stores, restaurants, bluffs and headlands, plus I had always wanted to stay in one of the many converted water towers. The view from our bedroom upstairs was nice.  You could see a partial view of the bay and village.  The floor plan was non-traditional.  First floor was the kitchen & living area.  Second floor was the main bedroom & bathroom.  Third floor was off limits, but appeared to be a private bedroom.  All rooms were connected to a narrow spiral staircase, which I would not recommend to anyone that doesn't like stairs or is not in good physical condition.  Over all, we had a great stay, enjoyed walking all over the village, taking pictures of everything from the buildings to the flowers and of course the ocean.

Here is the link to the property from where I rented it:

It is currently on the market for $1,950,000:

Seagull House in Bodega Bay

This past week I spent 4 days with my family and some close friends in a house in Bodega Harbor.  The house was called the "Seagull"  It accommodated everyone well enough.  Plenty of room for the kids to play and as well as the adults.  There were 3 bedrooms, 3 baths, a game room with a pool table & 2 twin beads, and the garage had a ping pong table.  Also there was a hot tub off the game room.  The beach was close & the views were great from the house.  The master bedroom had a wonderful view as well.  This home sits right on the the golf course, so golf carts drive in front of the home occasionally, but it was not annoying. The Saturday morning we were there, the caretakers did some mowing at 6:15 AM, so that was annoying.  This house did need some maintenance, plus a deep cleaning & the linen closet & kitchen needed to be organized. But I have to say, the kitchen was very accommodating for our large group & overall, the house was fairly clean.  Also we appreciated they did allow 1 small dog for a deposit.

The beach house was situated near Doran Beach.  I felt it was a safe beach for kids, because the waves are not real big, but of course you still need to watch them very closely, for there is no life guard. We did not in counter many people on this beach.  It is also dog friendly, which was nice since we had our little dog with us.

COST - approximately $1600 in all for 3 nights & 4 days - that is including a $75 pet fee
